Decades of Vintage Finds at The Long Beach Antique Market

LONG BEACH - Hal Ornstein and Bob Spillman think they bought Nicolas Cage's human-shaped, wooden rocking chair.
Ornstein and Spillman, who purchased the chair for $350 on Sunday at the Long Beach Antique Market at Veterans Memorial Stadium, were told the actor and Long Beach native once owned the elaborate chair.
Michelle and Robert Naylor, who sold it to Ornstein and Spillman, purchased it from an auction and were told it was Cage's, but the chair didn't have any documentation to authenticate it.
Nevertheless, the odd rocking chair was one of the unique purchases at the antique market, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in December.
To receive a permit at the event, vendors must sell merchandise that is at least 30 years old, said Donald Moger, co-producer of the antique market.
In the parking lot outside the stadium, more than 800 vendors have set up, selling all sorts of vintage and antique collectibles, including clothing, home furnishings, estate jewelry, toys, comic books and knickknacks.
Shoppers canvass the aisles, browsing one-of-a kind items, such as antique salt and pepper shakers, vintage restaurant signs and old photographs and postcards.
